Reply to this post: Levels of evidence is a hierarchy that is used to classify evidence. It is used in evidence-based practice to help find the heist level of evidence to help answer a clinical problem. They also use the internal validity to help determine the level of evidence. The internal validity indicates to what extent the results of the research might be biased and it also comments on the degree in which the alternate explanations for the outcomes are possible. (CEBM n.d) A way to help tell what the highest level of evidence is, is the levels of evidence pyramid. The highest level of evidence on the pyramids is systematic reviews but this level is the least common. The systematic review is when the authors ask specific clinical questions, perform a comprehensive literature review then they will eliminate the poorly done studies and they will attempt to make practice recommendations that are based on the well-done studies. These systematic reviews include only quantitative studies or experimental studies and, they often only include randomized control trials. (Academic Guides at Walden University, n.d) An example of a practice change that could result from systemic reviews is instituting a shoulder dystocia protocol that fosters effective team work and readiness from the obstetrics teams for managing shoulder dystocia emergencies.
